Displaying Earrings

by

Mary Harvey

If you sell your jewelry at shows (art, craft or home shows), you’ve probably run into the problem of how to display your stock of earrings. There are so many ways - on cards, in bags, hanging, laying flat, etc. This week, we’ll give you some ideas on how to display earrings.

Basically, there are two ways to display earrings - on cards and off cards. If you decide to use cards, you can purchase pre-made cards at supply stores, or you can make your own with business card stock, a word processor program and a small hole punch. If you decide not to card your earrings, then you will have to store them in plastic bags or trays to keep them neat and tidy.

The easiest way to display your earrings is to lay them out on the table. This makes a nice display, but it takes up so much valuable room. So, here are some other ideas for displays:

  • Buy a commercial display, like an acrylic rotating display. If you make your own cards, you can purchase stick-on hangers that will allow you to hang them from the display. If you don’t card, there are displays with holes in them to hang your earrings from.
  • Use a window screen in a picture frame. Take a picture frame, remove the glass, and staple a window screen to the back. You can stand them up using acrylic stands, or hang them from another part of your display. Once the earrings are on the screen, they can be placed in boxes for storage. I have also seen this done with small wooden fireplace screens, or wooden frames that have been hinged together so they stand freely.
  • Use a piece of thin plywood and layer it with a piece of foam and nice velvet material on the top. Staple the material to the back of the plywood and string fishing line across the front to hang your earring cards from. If you don’t card your earrings, then you can insert the ear wires directly into the velvet for a neat and tidy look
  • Use a Christmas card tree - these can be picked up at craft stores, and they have clips on them for hanging Christmas cards. The clips can be used to hold your earring cards.
  • If you are doing a Holiday show, try using a small Christmas tree as an earring display

These are just a few ideas on how to display your earrings. With a little imagination and some ingenuity, you can come up with the perfect display to show off your hard work.
